♿ Disability News Headlines + The Financial Advisor I Send Families To 🧩 Tuesday October 13

♿ Miami-Dade Disability & Autism Newsletter 🧩

Good morning, my fellow Miamians 🦩

In today's newsletter, the FDA just cleared the first digital tool to help diagnose autism in children as young as 16 months, and Florida’s autism-treatment task force is moving toward its final recommendations. Two decisions, one at the federal level and one here at home that shape how early our families get answers.

On the podcast, therapist Tova J. Kreps joins me to talk about why good people break down in silence, and what it costs to keep carrying everything alone. And if you’re planning around a child’s future, this week’s feature introduces the financial advisor I trust to make sure the plan on paper actually holds up.

Today's Edition Includes

  1. The Financial Advisor I Send Families To: A Fellow Autism Dad
  2. Support This Short Film by Santiago Barbara: A realistic perspective on autism
  3. Ask Congress to Support the Disabled Access Credit Modernization Act
  4. Disability News Headlines
  5. New Podcast Episode: Why Good People Break Down in Silence

🏠 The Financial Advisor I Send Families To: A Fellow Autism Dad 🔑

A good attorney writes the special needs trust. But a trust is an empty box until someone funds it, and that's a different professional, the financial advisor who makes sure the money is there when the parents are gone. Stephen Clark is who I trust for that in Miami.

Stephen is a financial planner with Prudential Advisors here in Miami. His focus is protecting the family, the life and disability insurance, the retirement plan, the long-term strategy that decides whether a plan on paper holds up over 30 years. For a family raising a child with a disability, that funding question is everything, the trust only protects the child if there's something in it.

What makes Stephen different is that he's an autism dad, like me. When he sits with a family planning for a child who may need support for life, he isn't working from a textbook, he's living a version of it at home. That's rare, and it's why I trust him with families I care about.

If you're working out how to fund your child's future, reach Stephen at Prudential in Miami at 305-420-2625, and tell him Victor sent you. And if a family you know needs this piece handled right, forward them this issue.

PSS. If you know a family trying to figure out housing around a child's needs, send them my way. They'll get someone who speaks their language from day 1.
